On Saturday, June 16, Sammi’s closest friends and family gathered under the gazebo at John Hendry Park (Trout Lake) for our annual “Shed Light on Lupus, Live for Sammi,” Walk. Despite the horrendous weather, there was a good crowd and we are extremely gracious that our Sammi’s Superstars did not let the rain stop us from kicking lupus’ ass!
Although it felt like we were stuck in a rainstorm, there were a great number of people who trekked it through the rain. Surrounded by delicious food, energetic dogs, adorable babies and fantastic company, we all knew Sammi was smiling from above. We weren’t able to walk around Trout Lake, but we did manage to stuff our faces to the end. As always, our favourite BBQ pork master, Norma de la Cruz took over the grill reins and prepared delicious pork skewers for our group. YUM!
Thank you to everyone who came out that day, and if we missed you this time around, don’t worry, we’ll be back next year!
To date, Sammi’s Superstars have raised approximately $11,000 for BC Lupus Society. All the funds we raise will be designated to their “Newly Diagnosed Lupus Patients in BC Program.” We are almost at our $16,000 goal but stay tuned; we’ll be hosting another event this fall!
