RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA – On Saturday, March 29th, the Richmond Devils Senior A team will host a public skate to raise funds in support of BC Lupus Society in memory of Samantha Wong, a key member of the Richmond Devils Hockey Club coaching group, who lost her battle with lupus on February 6, 2011.  The public skate will take place at Minoru Arena – Stadium Rink (7551 Minoru Gate, Richmond, BC) from 5:15-6:45pm.

All funds raised from admissions will be donated to BC Lupus Society.  This will also include proceeds from admission, 50/50, and a raffle draw that will feature hockey memorabilia, health and beauty products, and gift certificates that are all generously donated by family and friends of the Richmond Devils Hockey Club (RDHC). Last year, the team raised $9016 for the BC Lupus Society and is aiming to surpass their previous achievement.

Samantha was a long-time player and advocate for female ice hockey.  She played through the minor hockey system and eventually the Vancouver Griffins, a National Women’s Hockey League. She also assisted in developing female hockey in Hong Kong, where the sport is still relatively unknown. In addition, Samantha was selected by VANOC for the 2010 Winter Olympics as the team host for the women’s China ice hockey team.

All are invited to come for a fun evening of skating with members of Richmond’s women’s ice hockey club while raising awareness for lupus!
